Pennsylvania Carry Concealed License

"Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley,
raped and
strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally
superior to a
woman explaining to police how her attacker
got that fatal bullet wound." Courtesy of Women Against Gun Control

The state of Pennsylvania has a process which allows those individuals which have passed a background check, to carry a concealed handgun. Some other east coast states require approval of each handgun and registration on the license of each approved handgun. Pennsylvania does not. If you legally own it, your license allows you to carry it.

To apply for the license the individual must fill out a form from one of the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Office. That will set in motion a check to make sure there are no criminal convictions, no drug history, and several other problems. The form will also ask for two character references.  The department will mail those individuals asking them certain questions about you. Make sure you enter the name of somebody who will respond to the inquiry.  Your approval can be delayed for as long as it takes your friends to answer.

You will also have to visit the Sheriff's office where you will photographed for the license.  If all goes smoothly, your license will usually take between 4 and 6 weeks. The finished licensed will be mailed to you.

The above procedure is based upon experience of those applying in Lehigh County.  Other departments may have slightly different application procedures. Recently the total cost in Lehigh County was $38.00 for a five year license.

If you reside in another Pennsylvania county and would like to contribute your Sheriff's office contact information, email it to the webmaster CLICK HERE

Residents from other states are also allowed to apply for the license. You need not live here to be approved to carry.
