Gun ban near schools
60 Second Gun Ad
Guns are in the news. Recently, there’s been debate about laws banning guns within one thousand feet of schools. The idea is that if guns are banned near schools, no one will take a gun to school and no one will get hurt. The trouble with this approach is that disturbed kids and angry grown-ups do not care what the law says. If they want to take a gun to a school, they will, and the law doesn’t matter. There’s a lesson here folks, and that is this: criminals don’t obey the law, so you cannot stop criminals from having guns by banning guns. The other lesson is that good citizens do obey the law, so if the law says they can’t possess a gun near a school, they won’t; but that only makes sure that if a crazy person with a gun goes berserk, there won’t be anyone who can do anything about it except the police, and they may arrive too late. So, next time you hear about gun bans, think about it. Gun bans only disarm good citizens, not the criminals, because criminals don’t obey the law. It’s just common sense.
