Why Should I Contact My Representatives?

"They will not listen to me", "I have better things to do", "It is a waste of time". These are just a few of the excuses you hear in conversations, and see on the message boards, whenever this subject comes up. To fully understand the issues, we must understand our politicians.

Our politicians are not motivated the way we are.  We work a job, own a business, or run the household. In order to bring in money to support ourselves, we must accomplish something.

A politician has a different set of values. He lives a very good life, filled with "Walk Around Money", large Automobile Allowances, extremely good health care coverage for him and his family, a very lucrative retirement, media coverage which builds his ego and helps keep him entrenched in his position, and a lifestyle unknown to you to me.

There probably is a very small percentage, maybe 5%, of politicians who will support the Second Amendment because of his true beliefs. This minority will risk their careers to fight for us.  Unfortunately they are few and far between.  Despite their claims, the majority are motivated by numbers of voters.

If your politician thinks your views are a minority in his district, he will turn against you in a flash. His lucrative lifestyle and existence are at stake. If he loses the next election, he loses a lot. That is where we come in. It is our obligation to stay in contact with them and let them know we are constantly watching their Second Amendment votes. It is our obligation to encourage our shooting buddies, dealer friends, fellow collectors, and everybody involved to let their representatives know what we expect and keep after them. Most of all it is our obligation to show him we have the numbers that will make or break his next election/re-election.

Contacting a politician today is a very simple task. Unlike the past when writing a letter was the only method, today every politician has phone and email capabilities.  Write, call, or email your politicians often.
